May's Lick, Kentucky was founded  in 1788  by a group of families (including the Drake  and Shotwell families)  from Scotch Plains, New Jersey.  The group purchased 1400
acres of land from William May near the salt lick in southern Mason county and began to build a community.

Today, downtown May's Lick is home to several Antique and Craft shops in lovingly restored old storefronts.
